Dr. Leila Karimi is currently a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Arizona. Prior to her current postdoctoral appointment, she worked as a postdoctoral research associate and a college instructor at the University of Oklahoma OU) and New Mexico State University NMSU) respectively. Dr. Karimi received her Ph.D. degree in the Department of Chemical Materials Engineering at NMSU. Before joining NMSU for her Ph.D. studies, she also worked as an instructor at Sahand University of Technology and the Islamic Azad University of Mianeh, Iran. She conducted her Ph.D. research on advanced water treatment focusing on desalination of brackish water using electrodialysis/electrodialysis reversal ED/EDR) During her postdoctoral appointment, she worked on the synthesis and surface modification of magnetic nanoparticles for water and energy recovery applications. Although research and teaching are intrinsically rewarding, she also received the honor of recognition through several international and national awards, most notably the International Desalination Association 2013 Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship, NMSU Preparing Future Faculty Fellowship, and Graduate Research Fellowshithrough the Institute for Energy The Environment. Outside of classes and research, she served as a QA/QC officer for five years for the International Design Contest, hosted annually by NMSU; served on ASCE/EWRI’s Desalination Water Reuse Committee; co-chaired and chaired sessions at AIChE, Petrochemistry conferences, and World Environmental Water Resources Congress.
