Professor, Physics | Member of the Graduate Faculty | Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering
Hao Xin is a professor of electrical and computer engineering and physics at the University of Arizona. He is also a fellow of IEEE. His current teaching and research interests are high frequency technologies in ranges from microwave to terahertz, including passive and active circuits, antennas, properties and applications of new materials such as metamaterials and nanomaterials for wireless communication, sensing, biomedical applications, and energy harvesting. Before joining the University of Arizona, Xin worked as a research scientist at Rockwell Scientific Co. and as the senior principal multidisciplinary engineer at Raytheon Missile Systems. He has published over 300 refereed papers and holds over 20 patents in related research areas. He served as the general co-chair of the 8th International Antenna Technology Workshoand the general secretary of the 39th International Infrared, Millimeter Wave and THz Conference. He was an associate editor for IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters from 2012 to 2018. Xin is an associate editor for IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Magazine and the IEEE Journal of Radio Frequency Identification. He currently serves as the chair of the Young Professionals Committee of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. He is also the Tucson joint chapter chair of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society and IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. He has current and previous research support from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Air Force Research Laboratory, the Army Research Office, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research and industry – totaling more than 14 million overall and more than 8 million in individual expense – for his research on a broad range of topics related to microwave engineering. Xin has graduated and mentored 11 postdoctoral researchers, 16 PhD students including six visiting students) 10 MS students and more than 60 undergraduate students. Currently he supervises three postdocs, five PhD students, two MS students and two undergraduate students.
