About

Dr. Joshua Hustedt is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and upper extremity specialist who focuses on the surgical and non-surgical management of the upper extremity. Dr. Hustedt specializes in the treatment of all disorders of the upper extremity including shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand pathology in both adults and children. He is trained in arthroscopy, minimally invasive surgical approaches, and microvascular surgery. He has particular interests in peripheral nerve surgery, arthritis surgery, shoulder surgery, and upper extremity reconstruction utilizing nerve transfers and tendon transfers. Dr. Hustedt earned his undergraduate degree at Stanford University. While at Stanford, Dr. Hustedt was selected as a two-time NCAA All-American and was the Stanford and Pac-12 record holder in the multi-event competition in track and field. He was also a three-time Academic All-American, was awarded Stanford’s toScholar Athlete award, and received the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarshifor excellence in athletics and academics. Dr. Hustedt then completed medical doctorate and masters degrees at Yale University, an orthopedics residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, and a hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery fellowshiat Duke University. Currently, Dr. Hustedt serves as an Assistant Professor in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix, is a research director in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, serves as the hand, wrist, and elbow specialist for Banner Sports Medicine, and serves as the medical director of Orthopedics at Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix. Dr. Hustedt has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and presents his research at multiple orthopedic conferences across the country each year. His research has garnered dozens of prestigious national awards, including the Sumner Koch research award from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and multiple editor’s choice selections in the Journal of Hand Surgery. Along with his commitment to providing outstanding patient care, Dr. Hustedt believes strongly in the importance of advancing the field of orthopedic surgery through involvement in research, leadership, advocacy, and education, and is actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Hustedt is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand ASSH) the American Association of Hand Surgery AAHS) the American Society for Peripheral Nerve Surgery ASPN) and the American Shoulder and Elbow Society ASES) Dr. Hustedt is the father of three children. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoys mountain biking, water and snow skiing, and playing soccer.
