Dr. Xubin Zeng is the Agnese N. Haury Chair in Environment, Professor of Atmospheric Sciences, and Director of the Climate Dynamics and Hydrometeorolgy Center at the University of Arizona. He is an affiliated professor of the Applied Mathematics, Global Change, and Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis Interdisciplinary Programs. He also directs the Land-Atmosphere-Ocean Interaction LAOI) Group. Through over 200 peer-reviewed papers, Dr. Zeng's research has focused on land-atmosphere-ocean interface processes, weather and climate modeling, hydrometeorology, remote sensing, nonlinear dynamics, and big data analytics. His model parameterizations and global value-added observation-based datasets have been widely used in weather and climate models CESM, E3SM, NCEP, ECMWF, WRF) He acts as a bridge linking measurement technology, in situ and satellite data, and modeling communities. Dr. Zeng is a fellow of the American Meteorological Society AMS) and served on its Council and Executive Committee. He received the AMS Charles Franklin Brooks Award for Outstanding Service to the Society in 2021. He is also a fellow of the American Geophysical Union AGU) and American Association for the Advancement of Science AAAS) He received the Special Creativity Award from the National Science Foundation and the Outstanding Faculty Award from the University’s Asian American Faculty, Staff and Alumni Association. He received the Colorado State University Atmospheric Science Outstanding Alum Award. He is an Arizona LeadershiInstitute Fellow and Galileo Circle Fellow. He was just named a Distinguished Visiting Scientist at Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory JPL) starting from August 2022. Dr. Zeng co-chairs the Global Energy and Water Exchange GEWEX) Scientific Steering Group, starting from May 2021. He co-chaired the January 2019 AMS Annual Meeting Overall Planing Committee with 3,800 attendees) He also serves on the NOAA Science Advisory Board Environmental Information Services Working Grouand Science Advisory Board of DOE PNNL Earth Biological Sciences Directorate. In the past decade, he co-chaired the NASA Earth Science Community Workshoand White Paper on future directions in the Weather Focus Area, chaired the NSF AGS Community Workshoand White Paper on lower-atmosphere observing facilities LAOF) for climate studies, chaired the NOAA white paper on the use of observing system simulation experiments which was forwarded to the U.S. Congress, and served on the National Academies BASC Board and NASA/NOAA/USGS Decadal Survey Weather and Air Quality Panel
