I am a doctoral student in the School of Geography and Development at the University of Arizona, studying Political and Economic Geography. My current research focuses on sociospatial and economic practices and wellbeing of refugee women as they participate in market formal, informal) and community economies in Tucson, Arizona. I am interested in using film geography, visual ethnography, theories of assemblage, subjectivity and performativity in my research. Besides being a doctoral student, I am also a filmmaker. My first documentary film “Home Is In The Heart” won a Best Shorts Award in 2016. My latest film, Taste Bud Memories, on refugees, foodways and community in Tucson received an Emmy Nomination in 2019 by the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and won an Impact DOCS Award in 2020. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and was included among the Best Experimental Films of 2015 in venues including the Frozen Film Festival in San Francisco, 2019 AAG Conference in Washington DC, and was invited for the Boston Biennial in 2016 and 2018. Besides my doctoral research, I am currently in production with an international team on my feature documentary film Asikli Höyük, about an archaeological excavation in Turkey. I am the creative director of Cool Genie Pictures film production company, which I founded in 2015. I work as a multimedia design specialist in the Marketing and Communications Department of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arizona.
