OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security, Regolith Explorer) is a NASA spacecraft mission designed to study and collect samples from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu. Launched in 2016, OSIRIS-REx arrived at Bennu in late 2018 and spent two years conducting detailed observations of the asteroid before successfully collecting a sample in October 2020. The mission aims to study the origins of our solar system, better understand the composition of asteroids, and potentially provide insights into the origins of life on Earth. The collected samples are scheduled to return to Earth in 2023 for further analysis by scientists.
