CTE, or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, is a neurodegenerative disease that is believed to be caused by repeated head injuries such as concussions. It is most commonly found in athletes who participate in contact sports such as football and boxing, as well as military veterans who have been exposed to blasts or other types of head trauma. Symptoms of CTE include memory loss, mood swings, and cognitive impairment, and the condition can only be definitively diagnosed posthumously through an examination of the brain. Research in this area focuses on understanding the pathology of CTE, improving diagnostic tools, and developing potential treatments or preventive measures for those at risk of developing the disease.
