Guadalupe (Guada) Lozano grew up in Argentina. She serves as Director for the Center for University Education Scholarship (CUES), is an Associate Research Professor of Mathematics, and a Founding Member of the STEM in HSI Working group at the University of Arizona. Guada’s present work includes building faculty capacity in the scholarship of teaching and learning across all disciplines, and supporting asset-based institutional transformation. A current grant-sponsored project most dear to her heart, is the creation of a culturally-affirming precalculus dual-enrollment curriculum centered in Tucson, its identity and its people. Trained as a mathematician, Guada has led and contributed to local, national, and international efforts committed to growing equitable practices in higher education, STEM professions, and public schools. They include active collaborations with community partners as well as research on conceptual learning and instruction, usable mathematics knowledge, STEM equity through “servingness,” and the global gender gap in science and mathematics. In 2021 Guada was named a Notable Woman in Math by the Association for Women in Mathematics, and featured in the inaugural deck of Even Quad Playing Cards for her contributions to research, the profession, and the University on teaching, learning, and equity.
