Abstract

The Preserve��s strategic goal is to begin planning for potential improvements to management of the Fort Bowie National Historic Site (FOBO NHS) so as to enhance visitor experiences and interpretation to the public of the history of human activities at the park. This Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) will inform the NPS of the features significant to the cultural landscape and provide the NPS with data and information that will help understand the history, evolution, existing condition, and provide treatment recommendation for the long term preservation and management of the cultural landscape. This project is needed to provide the park with critical cultural landscape resources information and evaluations that can be used to help complete NHPA Section 110 inventory and Section 106 determinations of effect for future projects within FOBO NHS and to develop a deeper partnership with the cooperator in the long term management of the park��s cultural resources. B. Project Objectives �� The project objectives are to produce a Cultural Landscape Report for FOBO NHS that will be available to inform planning efforts, landscape preservation guidance, and treatment of visitor infrastructure as well as to provide University of Arizona Department of Landscape Architecture student(s) with an understanding of the principles and standards of the NPS Cultural Landscapes program, the National Register of Historic Places, The Secretary of the Interior��s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties + Guidelines for the Treatment of Cultural Landscapes, and with the experience of working with NPS staff to complete the project
